Infineon is one of the top ten semiconductor manufacturers worldwide with in total around 41,400 employees and facilities in Asia, America, and Europe. By developing, producing, and selling cutting-edge semiconductor solutions, Infineon strives to be an innovative and customer-oriented industry leader.
The head quarter and largest site of Infineon Technologies Austria is based in Villach, with further branches in Graz, Klagenfurt, Linz and Vienna. The company’s success is founded on over 4.600 employees from approximately 68 countries who have established Infineon as an important leading business in Austria.
As Infineon’s largest Development Center in Austria, the site in Graz is also the headquarter for the LiDAR product group. The team has many years of experience in 3D imaging and time-of-flight technologies as well as MEMS elements and accompanying driver ASICs.
Role
Infineon Technologies Austria AG and its Development Center in Graz is the overall project coordinator of the flagship project “iLID4SAM”.
At the same time, Infineon is also heading work package 2 where the components of the LiDAR sensor are being developed. This includes the VCSEL laser diodes, the MEMS mirror and mirror driver as well as the receiver boards. In addition, detailed models of the components will be developed to aid in the simulations and the design.
Key contribution
Infineon Technologies Austria is world leader in the field of environment perception for assisted and automated driving. Infineon in Graz and Villach cover the LiDAR expertise required for the proposed research undertaking. While Infineon in Graz concentrates on the development of the MEMS-driver, and control ASICs, Infineon in Villach tackles the MEMS mirror technology development and manufacturing. Given this LiDAR-specific know-how, accompanied with several functional safety specialists, Infineon perfectly matches the profile required for this challenging research project.
Infineon has access to state-of-the-art CAD tools and fabs to design and fabricate integrated circuits with sensors integrated on them. In Graz, Infineon has several state-of-the-art laboratories fully equipped to perform optical, electrical evaluation and measurements of LiDAR systems as well as low-power, high-speed circuits. These labs are specifically designed to build prototypes and to evaluate them.
